Youth Literary Competition

2025 Suzanne Marie Margaret Sloat Youth Literary Competition

Eligibility

Open to all 4th – 12th grade students attending any Michigan school.

Competition Levels (for students entering these grades in the 2025-26 school year):

  • Level I: 4th – 6th Grade
  • Level II: 7th – 9th Grade
  • Level III: 10th – 12th Grade

Theme & Requirements

Submit an original short story based on the theme: “My adventures with a famous person of Polish descent or Polish legend or mythological creature.”

Entry Guidelines

  • Must be original, unpublished, and not awarded in any other competition
  • Typed, double-spaced, 500–1000 words
  • One entry per student
  • Can be in English or Polish
  • No use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) permitted

  • Send entries to: info@friendsofpolishart.org
  • Subject line: “Polish Youth Literary Competition Submission”
  • Attach: Your story (Word or PDF), Completed Entry Form/Permission Slip
  • Do not include your name on the story — only on the permission form

Deadlines

  • Entry Deadline: Friday, August 15, 2025
  • Winners Notified: September 15, 2025
  • Winners Announced: October FPA General Membership Meeting

Publication Rights

Winning stories may be published on the Friends of Polish Arts website and/or newsletter

Submission grants FPA a royalty-free license to publish/reprint winning entries
