2024 Estelle Wachtel-Torres, MD Literary Competition Sponsored by Friends of Polish Art

Entry Rules

  1. Open to all Michigan residents at least 18 years
  2. All entries must be short stories, poems, essays, or short graphic novels. All entries must be original, never have been published or received an award in any other All entries will be judged together regardless of form.
  3. All entries must be in They must be typed, double spaced, and with a maximum length of 2000 words. Participants can submit up to two (2) entries.
  4. The 2024 theme will be: “A historical fiction based on Polish history or historical figure” (ex. “An account of living with Madam Curie”, “Henryk Sienkiewicz and how I inspired one of his literary works”, “I was with Copernicus when he wrote his research on the heliocentric model”. While creating your piece, use your imagination, but remember that the historical fiction must be researched and based on historical facts.   5. Please send your entry by Word or PDF attachment to: Jessica Urban panijessica33@outlook.com.
    In addition, mail one copy of your entry along with the “Entry Form”
    to: Jessica Urban 5130 Kenicott Trl Brighton, MI 48114. Deadline for entries is Saturday, July 1st, 2024. Winners will be notified by mail by the end of August 2024 and announced at the annual FPA General Membership Meeting to be held in September of 2024. Please put your name ONLY on the “Entry Form” – not on your entry.
  6. Prizes: Estelle Wachtel-Torres, MD Literary Competition Grand Winner – $400; 2nd Place – $300; 3rd Place – $200.
  7. Excerpts of Grand Winner and Second place entries may be published in the Friends of Polish Art Newsletter. All winning entries may be placed online at the Friends of Polish Art Entrants may receive multiple recognitions but may only receive one monetary award. In the case of multiple submissions, entrants will receive the highest award.
  8. Submission of works constitutes a copyright license to the Friends of Polish Art (FPA) to publish and/or reprint the winning works should FPA choose to do so without royalties or other By submitting the paper, the entrants represent that they have the right to grant this license.
